(Rishitha Jaladi, Intern Journalist) Vijayanagaram: Three COVID victims are carried to hospital in garbage vans. This incident took place in Nellimarla town of Vijayanagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. 

This incident was highlighted on social media and the opposition party trussed with counters saying the government has failed to work efficiently during the pandemic times. As soon as the video went viral, the officials ordered a probe on the issue. 

COVID patients carried to hospitals in garbage vans

The villagers said, that a family was tested COVID positive and placed a call for an ambulance to shift to a nearby government hospital. But the ambulance didn’t turn up. Hence, they went on a garbage van. 

After the probe, the officers commented saying, the ambulance was sent to the place but the patients left even before the ambulance has arrived. The garbage van was used to carry sodium Hypochlorite and other items used for burying COVID patients.

Reacting to the Incident, Opposition Leader Chandra Babu Naidu Tweeted “Appalling! Three COVID patients in BC Colony, Jarjapupeta in Vizianagaram Dist were seen taken to the hospital in a ‘Garbage vehicle’. Don’t know about Coronavirus but the helpless patients might contract other dangerous diseases. Why are they not being treated like humans?
