(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) A major accident took place on Saturday in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. A crane fell here at Hindustan Shipyard Limited.
The death toll in the incident has increased to 11. This has been confirmed by Vinay Chand, the district collector of Visakhapatnam. Earlier, DCP Suresh Babu had said that “10 people died and one was injured in the incident.”
District Magistrate Vinay Chand said that ‘a new crane was being commissioned. Trial runs were being carried out to bring it into full-scale operation. We have ordered an inquiry within the Hindustan Shipyard and also from a high-level committee of administration.’
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jaganmohan Reddy has said that ” we have directed the District Collector of Visakhapatnam and the City Police Commissioner to take immediate action in the crane accident case”.
18 workers were present on the spot, Minister Avanti Srinivas has ordered the officials to take effective steps after taking information about the incident. It is being told that a total of 18 laborers were working near the heavy crane.
