Dalma- Odisha delicacy

(Namita Pradhan, Intern Journalist) Odisha; The Odia special Dalma curry recipe is a healthy and tasty curry that is rich in protein and vitamins, it is made in every kitchen of Odisha. It is the curry of lentils with raw papaya and vegetables. So let’s start the recipe

Dalma

Ingredients-

  • Arhar dal(Split toor dal) – 1 cup (Soaked for 1 hour)
  • Potatoes-2 no (cut it to cubes)
  • Carrot- 1 (Cut it to cubes)
  • Pumpkin- ½
  • Brinjal- 2 (Cut it to cubes)
  • Papaya- ½
  • Onion-1 medium
  • Tomato- 1 medium
  • Ginger Garlic paste-2 tsp
  • Bay leaf- 1 no
  • Ghee- 1 tsp
  • Green Chillies- 4 no
  • Red Chilli- 2 no
  • Cumin pwd- 1tsp
  • Turmeric pwd-1 tsp
  • Red chilli pwd- 1 tsp
  • Fresh coconut – thinly sliced (half bowl)
  • Few Coriander leaves

Method-

  • In the pressure, Cooker add the vegetables, dal, and haldi and salt let it boil till 3 whistles
  • After the vegetables and dals get boiled transfer it to a bowl
  • In the cooker add oil and spices then add the onion and tomatoes to it
  • Add all the pwd to it and sauté till you smell the aroma of the spices
  • Add the vegetables  to it then add salt to it and cook it for 5 minutes
  • Then add garam masala to it and cook it for 5-10 minutes
  • Decorate it with coconut and coriander leaves.

Our Dalma is ready, serve it with rice or roti and enjoy the delicacy.
