(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist) : European Union High Court on Wednesday delivered its verdict in favor of technology giant Apple and Ireland in its dispute with the EU over 13 billion euros ($ 15 billion) in taxes.
The Luxembourg-based General Court held that the multinational company does not require to pay the 13 billion euros that the European Union Commission called for. The European Union Commission claimed that Apple had an illicit tax deal with Irish authorities.
Only the points of law can be appealed from the decision of the second Supreme Court of the European Union on the 2016 decision.
The court said that “the Commission did not succeed in showing to the requisite legal standard that there was an advantage.”
