(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): The active corona case data in India shows that the spread of the pandemic is now slowing down. The number of active cases has almost halved in the first week of August as compared to the last week of July and there has been an increase of about 40 percent in the same period.
At present, there are more than 6 lakh active cases in India. According to the Health Ministry data, a total of 1,05,183 active cases were added in the last week of July alone. In the first week of August, this number was reduced to 53,985. The recovery rate in India is also 70 percent. In the last week of July, about 2.4 lakh infected people were cured. The next week i.e. in the first seven days of August, this number increased to 3.32 lakh.
The number of active cases shows how many people are currently infected. The number of active cases is ascertained by reducing the number of recovery and deaths from the total confirmed cases. Two-thirds of India’s total active cases are in five states – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. A quarter of the total active cases of the country are in Maharashtra alone.
