Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): The Supreme Court has given ten months to complete the construction of smog towers in Delhi for the purpose of curbing air pollution. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Delhi had said before a bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra that the work would be completed in 10 months.
The ministry and the department further told the court that the required funds have been transferred to Tata Consultancy. In addition, the affidavit filed by MoEF stated that Rs 52 lakh has also been transferred to Clean Air-Care LLC which is the licensee of the University of Minnesota.
Taking the affidavit into the record, the bench warned that “any violation on any ground would be considered in contempt of the order passed by this court as there has already been a very unreasonable delay in complying with the order.”
A bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Justice BR Gavai, and Justice Krishna Murari stated, “However, since steps are being taken and the affidavit has been filed, we are not proceeding for the violation of the order passed by this court, only Allow the project to be completed positively within 10 months based on action and affidavit equipped to complete the project. “
The court passed this order in the MC Mehta case. In January 2020, a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra directed the Center and the Delhi government to ensure that large-scale air is essential to deal with every year’s troubles faced by the national capital in winter. Under the installation of the purifier, a smog tower should be installed in the Connaught Place area of New Delhi. It was directed to be done within 3 months as a pilot project.
