New Delhi: (Geetesh Ujjainwal, Intern Journalist) The Delhi Waqf Board has sought an inspection by the Archaeological Survey of India before the removal of debris and restoration of parts of the historic Masjid Mubarak Begum that was damaged due to the heavy rain on Sunday.

A Waqf Official said, The debris from the central dome of the over-200-year-old mosque at Hauz Qazi in Old Delhi, which was damaged due to lightning, is lying on the roof and might lead to further damage due to rain and seepage.

“In a letter to the ASI archaeologist on Monday, the Waqf Board requested an inspection of the heritage structure by experts, so that the rubble from the damaged dome could be preserved for research and used in the restoration work,” he added. The board is the custodian of the notified heritage structure.
