(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): 1992 to 2020. The verdict in the 28-year-old Babri Masjid demolition case is set to be announced on Wednesday. The verdict will be announced by a special CBI court in Lucknow. The list of accused in the high-profile case includes former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, former Union Minister, and BJP leader Uma Bharti, BJP leader Binoy Katiyar, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj, and four former Uttar Pradesh chief ministers. However, 18 people died during the trial.
In other words, at present 32 accused are alive. All the accused, including Advani, have been directed to appear in court on Wednesday. On December 6, 1992, the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was destroyed by the tax collectors. Two charges were filed in that case. One accused of conspiracy to destroy the Babri Masjid, the other of persuasion. A Lucknow court is hearing a case of conspiracy to destroy a mosque. The trial of the persuasion case was going on in Rae Bareli court.
On April 19, 2016, the Supreme Court dismissed the two cases. A special court was constituted in Lucknow for the hearing. The case has been going on for 26 years. A total of 354 people testified during the trial. Murli Manohar Joshi’s statement was recorded in a special CBI court on July 23 this year in a video conference. The next day, on July 30, Lal Krishna Advani’s statement was also recorded.
Both were present in Ayodhya on the day of Babri’s destruction. In a statement to the court, however, they denied the allegations against them. What will be the verdict of the special CBI court on Wednesday in the Babri demolition case? What is waiting for LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi in the verdict of the case which has been going on for 26 years? The whole country looked in that direction.
