(Milcah Anila, Intern Journalist) Vijayawada YS Jagan: Chief Minister Jagan has revealed that radical changes are going to be made in higher education in Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has issued key directives to give admissions directly in Ph.D. after a four-year degree in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy conducted a review on higher education as part of the implementation of the new National Education Policy-2020 in Andhra Pradesh.
The review of the chief minister’s camp office Adimulapu Suresh, Special Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Satish Chandra, Professor Kehemacandrareddi Chairman of the Board of Higher Education, Higher Education Regulatory and Monitoring Commission Chairman Justice V.Esvarayya attended. Officials said the four-year Honors degree course will be launched from this academic year with the main objective of Skill Development Research Orientation.
Speaking on the occasion, CM YS Jagan said that all colleges in the state should achieve the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and National Accreditation Council (NAC-NAC) certificates in the next three years. He said that all government colleges must also get that recognition. Notices were ordered to be issued to all colleges, including non-standard engineering.
He warned that if there is no change in the colleges within three years, action must be taken. The CM also directed to take action against intermediate colleges which do not meet the standards.
CM Jagan also clarified that BED colleges should strictly adhere to the standards. Teacher training institutions should be treated ruthlessly if there is no quality. Teachers questioned how they would teach lessons to children if there was no quality in the training itself.
CM Jagan suggested to the authorities that there should no longer be one or two-year PG programs in the state. Also ordered to start three or four-year degree courses from this year. It was clarified that admissions in Ph.D. should be given directly to those who have completed a 4-year degree. They want to set up 5 years of integrated PG programs from next year. It also wants to have four-year integrated BED programs from next year.
CM Jagan clarified that courses with advanced topics in higher education should be designed in a way that would be useful to students in the future. New courses like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics are to be started. Beacon also wants to have security (stock) analysis and risk management.
