(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): A 22-year-old man was arrested on Monday for murdering his mother in Madangir area of south Delhi. The Delhi Police received an emergency call in the Police Control Room in the afternoon that a 45-year-old woman is lying in her house unconscious with stab injuries. The person who died was known as Anjali. Neighbors told police that the gruesome murder could have been committed by her son, Sagar. He was detained straight away from the spot.
“We received a PCR call regarding a son stabbing his mother in the Block-G Madangir Central Market. A 45-year-old lady was found in an unconscious state. Her son was apprehended and the woman was shifted to the hospital,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Thakur.
The accused was held in detention for questioning and allegedly admitted to murdering his mother. The woman subsequently succumbed to her injury. An initial police investigation has confirmed that Anjali and her son started staying about six months ago in a rented apartment in Madangir.
The landlord and neighbors said in their testimony to police that mom and son lived together and never quarreled. The neighbors, though, heard lots of sounds after early Monday morning, and saw the two shoutings and grappling with each other. The neighbors say the son picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her twice.
The neighbors, hearing her shouts of help, rushed to the house and saw a profusely bleeding Anjali lying on the ground. Police say the accused is a drug addict and liquor addict. Further questioning continues.
