Rishika Iyer (Intern Journalist): On Friday morning, a drug peddler named Sankar, 49 years of age was shot dead during a police encounter. The incident took place in New Avadi Road of Chennai city. The nearest police station (Ayanavaram Police) was immediately notified of the peddlers’ whereabouts. A team was formed with police inspector Nagarajan leading it for nabbing the peddler.
Sankar apart from being a drug peddler was involved in four murders, four attempt to murder cases, and 29 extortion cases. He also supplied drugs to various parts of North Chennai. The policeman cleverly cornered him in his hideout place.
While trying to escape from there, he attacked one of the policemen named Mubarak. The inspector immediately opened fire at Sankar with the help of his service pistol. He was announced “dead on arrival” when the police rushed him to the Kilpauk Medical Hospital.
