The Enforcement Directorate, ED has attached assets worth Rs 2,200 crore to Rana Kapoor and others in the Yes Bank money laundering case. Officials said the assets of DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan have also been attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, PMLA. The Enforcement Directorate also included some of Rana Kapoor’s foreign assets.
Recently, ED had filed a charge sheet against Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor in a special court in Mumbai. The ED alleges that Kapoor and his family members secured Rs 4,300 crore for issuing large loans through their companies. Kapoor is accused of receiving a bribe in lieu of debt recovery, which the assets later turned into non-performing assets (NPAs).
On March 8, the ED arrested Kapoor, a former managing director, and chief executive officer of the bank, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED is also probing, among other things, the Rs 600 crore received by the companies controlled by Kapoor, his wife, and three daughters from the Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) accused of the scam. Recently, the CBI also filed a charge sheet against Rana Kapoor, his wife Bindu, and daughter Roshni for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 600 crore from DHFL promoters.
The charge sheet filed before a special CBI court in Mumbai included names of Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL), Kapil Wadhawan, his brother Rajesh, Belief Realtors Private Limited, RKW Developers Private Limited and DOIT Urban Ventures (India) Private Limited. Charges have been made against these accused and under the provisions of Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and the Prevention of Corruption Act of the Indian Penal Code.
