Saloni Subha ( Intern Journalist ) The Covid-19 case is continuously rising and uncertainty over the restoration of normalcy, the Educational Development Council ( EDC ) has written a letter to the Bihar’s chief minister and governor, and education minister for allowing the Bachelor of Education (BEd ) to take admission directly without any entrance exam.

There are 354 government college and self-funded colleges offering Bed course with a capacity of 35,000 seats, informed Educational Development Council. This year, Lalit Narayan Mithila College in Darbhanga has been assigned as a nodal college for conducting the Common Entrance test for BEd ( CET-BEd ) across the state which was scheduled on March 29 but the exam was called off because of lockdown.

According to SK Shrivastava, a General Secretary of the council ” The online admission portal has registered around 1.22 lakhs application for admission in BEd colleges. The entrance test was rescheduled on July 19 which was again canceled due to unfavorable conditions. The current situation suggests conducting entrance exam world not be feasible”.

Shrivastava highlighted that the salary of more than 10,000 teaching staff and non-teaching staff of BEd colleges is pending while the future of applicants is on stake due to delay in the admission process. “As per the guidelines of National Council for Teachers Education ( NCTE ), admission in BEd courses can be taken on the basis of marks, which suggests a candidate with minimum 50% marks in graduation is eligible for admission in the course”, he further said.

Educational Development Council has requested them to permit the college for taking admission of the applicants through online Counseling for the timely beginning of the new academic session.
