(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) New Delhi: The seventh round of talks between farmers’ organizations and three union ministers to resolve the deadlock against agricultural laws for more than a month also proved to be inconclusive on Monday. The government made it clear that agricultural laws cannot be withdrawn. However, the farmers are firm on the demand for the repeal of the laws. Now the next meeting will be on 8 January. After the meeting ended, Indian Farmers Union spokesman Rakesh Tikait said that the farmers tore the amendment given by the government.
In today’s conversation, no agreement could be reached on any issue.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Piyush Goyal, and Som Prakash interacted with 41 leaders of various farmer organizations. After the meeting started in the afternoon, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, “Our demands were negotiated.” No return home if the law does not return. There is no tension. We have made it clear that nothing is allowed without the return of law. Will talk again on 8 January. We tore the amendment of the government. ”
After the seventh round of talks, the farmer leader claimed that the government was under a lot of pressure. All India Kisan Sabha general secretary Hannan Mollah said, “The government is under pressure.” We all said that there is a demand for the repeal of our agricultural laws. We do not want to discuss any other subject.
Until the laws are withdrawn, the movement will not be withdrawn. ” There was no discussion on other issues including MSP in the meeting. The two sides took a lunch break after an hour of talks. The government is firm on its stand not to repeal these laws and is thought to have referred the matter to the committee for consideration. In an hour-long dialogue between the two sides, the important demand of farmers to recognize the law on the minimum support price system associated with the purchase of food grains has not been discussed. The representatives of the farmer’s organization brought food for themselves which was in the form of an anchor. However, like 30 December, today, the central leaders did not attend the langar meal and continued to discuss it separately during the lunch break.
Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at the Delhi border for more than a month demanding the withdrawal of the three agricultural laws. Despite heavy rains and water logging and a great cold at the protest site around the National Capital Region, the farmers have remained firm. Significantly, these laws came into force in September 2020 and the government introduced it as an important agrarian reform and said to be an income generator for farmers. During the meeting, the government enumerated the benefits of the three agricultural laws, while the farmers’ organizations continued to insist on withdrawing these laws to remove the apprehension about the new law that it would weaken the MSP and the mandi system and that of the big corporate houses. Will be on mercy.
