(Bhagya Luxmi, Intern Journalist) The Delhi government, while filing its reply before the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, said that every pregnant woman is not required to undergo a corona (COVID-19) test unless she is suspected of coming in contact with an infected patient. In a recent affidavit, the Delhi government said that as per the guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), if a pregnant woman meets the criteria of the COVID-19 test, it should be tested, but maternity management work will not be delayed due to her test.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by advocate Nikhil Singhvi, sought directions for giving priority to the COVID-19 test of pregnant women. To reply to this, the Delhi Government said that every pregnant woman is not required to undergo a corona (COVID-19) test unless she is suspected of coming in contact with an infected.

A bench of Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan after taking note of what was said in the affidavit said that adequate steps have been taken by the Delhi government to address the petitioner’s application. The bench said that we do not see any reason for issuing any further instructions in the case. The petition is therefore disposed of.

The Delhi government said in its affidavit that the COVID-19 epidemic has affected a large number of people, and India has a large population with limited resources.

Let me tell you, the High Court had earlier asked the Delhi government to clarify whether it is necessary for pregnant women going to the hospital for delivery to undergo the COVID-19 test as it cannot wait for the report to come.
