Ex-Indian footballer quits politics after joining BJP

(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): A day after joining the BJP on Wednesday, former Indian footballer Mehtab Hossain said he had not been associated with any political party. Mr. Hossain, known in the Kolkata Maidan as the ‘Midfield General,’ said it was a personal decision to leave politics as he was left devastated by his family’s and well-wishers’ pain and feelings over his abrupt attempt to join a political party.

The former East Bengal captain was handed the BJP flag at the Muralidhar Sen Lane office by the party’s state president, Dilip Ghosh, in the midst of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” chants.
