(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Tokyo: There is going to be an important change in the politics of Japan. Yoshihide Suga will become the new Prime Minister of the country after the resignation of the former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Suga was elected to the new leader of the ruling party of Japan and thus the way to become Prime Minister is almost to clear on Monday’s internal vote to elect the successor of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the ruling party. Sugar received 377 votes in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, while the other two contenders received 157 votes.
Abe resigned from his post last month due to health reasons. Currently considered the chief cabinet and close to Abe, Suga’s victory was believed to be certain as the Liberal Democrats hold a majority in the ruling coalition. LDC’s policy chief Phumio Kishidha and former Defence Minister Shigeru Ishiba were also included in the race to become prime minister. Both leaders had expressed their desire to take up this position after Shinjo left the post.
