(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); Walmart-owned Flipkart said on Tuesday that more than 70,000 people in the country would get direct employment during the festive season and indirect employment to millions more before the festive season and during its Big Billion Days (BBD) sale. The Bengaluru-based company said that Flipkart’s entire supply chain would create direct employment opportunities, while retail outlets and sales partner centers would create indirect jobs.
The company said in a statement that during the festive season employment opportunities will be ready in all ancillary industries, from sales locations to freight partners. A large part of the business goes to e-commerce companies during festive sales and they invest a lot to increase their capacity to take advantage of this opportunity. Last year, Flipkart and its competitor Amazon announced the creation of more than 1.4 lakh temporary jobs during the festive sale.
Flipkart said it invests heavily during the festival sale for capacity, storage, sorting, packaging, human resources, training, and distribution, which is helpful in generating additional employment during the festive season. Flipkart Senior Vice President (e-cart and marketplace) Amitesh Jha said, “We are focused on building an influential partnership, which allows the entire ecosystem to grow.” In a separate statement, Flipkart said that it will now enable customers to get invoices on the Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) so that they can claim the input tax credit on their purchases.
