(Satya Havilah, Intern Journalist) Paris: A Paris court on Monday saw French previous President Nicolas Sarkozy as blameworthy of defilement and impact selling and condemned him to one year in jail and a two-year suspended sentence.
The 66-year-old lawmaker, who was president from 2007 to 2012, was sentenced for having attempted to wrongfully acquire data from a senior officer in 2014 about a legitimate activity in which he was included.
The court said Sarkozy will be qualified for solicitation to be confined at home with an electronic armband.
The court said the realities were “especially genuine” given that they were submitted by a previous president who utilized his status to help an officer who had served his own advantage. Furthermore, as a previous legal counselor, he was “entirely educated” about submitting an illicit activity, the court said.
Sarkozy’s two co-respondents were additionally seen as blameworthy and given a similar sentence as Sarkozy.
Sarkozy will confront another preliminary in the not so distant future alongside 13 others on charges of unlawful financing of his 2012 official mission.
