(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Zimbabwe: Former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbra will say goodbye to international cricket after the current T20 series against Pakistan. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board gave this information on Saturday. Zimbabwe’s veteran all-rounder Chigumbra made his international debut in 2004. The 34-year-old Chigumbra played 14 Tests, 213 ODIs, and 54 T20 Internationals for Zimbabwe before his farewell series. “Former captain Elton Chigumbra will retire from international cricket after the current Pakistan tour,” Zimbabwe Cricket said on its official Twitter handle.
According to Zimbabwe Cricket, the all-rounder is retiring due to injury and giving young players a chance. The three-match T20 series will end on 10 November. Prior to the first T20 against Pakistan, Chigumbra took 138 wickets in addition to scoring 5761 international runs. He also has two centuries and 26 half-centuries to his name. He led Zimbabwe in 62 ODIs and 18 T20 matches. He is only the second Zimbabwe player to complete 4000 runs and 100 wickets double after Grant Flower in One Day International cricket. He took three wickets for 20 runs, playing a key role in his team’s victory against Australia in the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In addition to the 2002 and 2004 Under-19 World Cups, Chigumbra was part of Zimbabwe’s team in the 2011 ICC Men’s World Cup, while leading the team in the 2015 World Cup.
