Funding of three trusts, including Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, to be investigated

The Ministry of Home Affairs has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee to investigate the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust from China. The Ministry has constituted this committee to investigate the violation of various legal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act, Foreign Fund Regulatory Act (FCRA) etc. The Special Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED) will head this committee. A spokesman of the Ministry of Home Affairs has given this information.

Significantly, the foundation of this trust, established in the name of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Its board also has former PM Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, P. Chidambaram and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as members. According to the foundation’s annual report, it received donations from both the Chinese government and the Chinese embassy in India

Congress’s reaction to the government’s decision against the organizations

Senior Congress leader Manish Tiwari termed the government’s move against the organizations as “illegal, arbitrary and malicious action”. He said that instead of fighting China, Corona, and bringing the economy back on track, the government only wants to fight the Congress.

Nadda attacks Congress
Recently, BJP President JP Nadda attacked Congress on this and said that the country wants to know why Rajiv Gandhi Foundation got money from China? it’s embarrassing. The interests of the country were sacrificed by taking donations from foreign forces for their private trusts.

Nadda’s allegations

Nadda had also alleged that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has received funds from various public sector undertakings. On 27 June, Nadda alleged that funds received in the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF) between 2005-2008 were sent to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF). Addressing a press conference, Nadda launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, alleging that many central ministries and public sector undertakings were forced to pay money to the RGF under the UPA regime.

People of the country want answers

Nadda, meanwhile, said that during the UPA regime, various central ministries and public sector undertakings including SAIL, GAIL, SBI were pressurized to give money to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation took heavy donations from major Indian corporates. Attacking the Congress, Nadda further said that why the funds of PMNRF, which is meant to serve the people and provide relief to them, was sent to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation between 2005-2018? People of our country want to know the answer.
