(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist) Kanpur: Gangster Vikas Dubey, accused of killing eight policemen in Kanpur, has been killed by UP STF in an encounter. Dubey was arrested in Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain yesterday. STF team was bringing him on remand to UP. Then the STF team’s car has overturned on the way. Vikas Dubey was riding in the vehicle which overturned. He then tried to run away with the police weapon. According to police sources, Vikas Dubey was killed in the subsequent encounter.
Vikas Dubey was hiding in three states for seven days after killing 8 policemen in Bikaru village but was killed in an encounter as soon as he reached his land. The day before, he went to Mahakal temple in Ujjain. The police arrested him from the temple premises. He had disturbed the sleep of the UP police from one week. For this reason, his prize money was increased from 50 thousand to five lakh.
After the encounter, Vikas Dubey was brought to the Hallet hospital in Kanpur, where doctors declared him dead. The encounter took place 25 km from the toll plaza near Kanpur. When the STF vehicle overturned, then Vikas Dubey snatched away the police weapon and started firing. In the counter-attack, the STF team shot and injured him. But when he was brought to the hospital, doctors declared him dead. The police car was going at a high speed and overturned because of heavy rain.
Kanpur West SP said that when the vehicle overturned, Vikas Dubey snatched away the pistol of the police. After this, the police party surrounded him and tried to make him surrender but he fired on the police team. Police fired in self-defense, in which Vikas Dubey was injured.
In the last eight days, the UP police have killed five people of Vikas Dubey gang in an encounter while two people have been arrested. “Among those killed in the encounter are Vikas Dubey’s maternal uncle and cousin. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh Police has also clamped down on Vikas Dubey’s wife Richa Dubey, and his son. The police have arrested Richa, Vikas’s son, and his servant from Krishnanagar area of Lucknow.
