(Priyanka Gupta, Intern Journalist)New Delhi: Video sharing platform by Google has made a big digital strike against Chinese propaganda. Alphabet and video sharing platform YouTube has announced the closure of around 2500 YouTube channels that spread misinformation. The YouTube channel that Google has announced to shut down is accused of spreading Chinese propaganda worldwide.
Google said that these Youtube channels have been removed from April to June. The company, in its investigation, has found that these Youtube channels engage with China and post videos in support of China. The company disclosed this in its quarterly report.
Twitter also closed the account
Google has not revealed the names of the Youtube channels, which was deleted due to having Chinese propaganda. Also, the US-based Chinese Embassy has not yet commented on this action by Google. However, Beijing has a long record of denials of such allegations. Earlier in April this year, when Twitter closed hundreds of Chinese accounts on Twitter for spreading misinformation, China also rejected such allegations.
India took action against Chinese apps
The activities of China are considered very suspicious. Especially after the outbreak of the corona virus, a negative atmosphere has continued regarding China. China has tried to build its image from social media platforms such as Twitter and Youtube to correct the atmosphere against the world. But in the last few months, against the action of China, the fast action of tech companies has deleted hundreds of Chinese accounts. In view of national security concerns in India, 59 Chinese apps including TikTok were closed. After this, now in America, there is an attempt to close the Chinese app Tiktok.
