(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Now that Netflix is free on the 5th and 6th of December, why not spend your day binge-watching every series that you might have missed? If you are confused and don’t know where to start, here’s a list of the best shows that you should definitely watch!

The Queen’s Gambit (2020)

The Queen’s Gambit is an American drama series based on the novel of the same name. The seven-part limited series is about an orphaned chess prodigy on her rise to becoming the world’s greatest chess player while struggling with emotional problems and drug and alcohol dependency. After four weeks of viewing, it became Netflix’s most-watched scripted miniseries. Even if you don’t know how to play chess, the competitive scenes are exciting to watch.

This is a great Netflix binge-watch: seven episodes is just the right number. Well worth watching.

The Haunting of Hill House (2018)

The Haunting of the Hill House is an American supernatural horror drama tv series. It is based on the 1959 novel of the same name. The plot revolves around two timelines following five adult siblings whose paranormal experiences at Hill House still continue to haunt them.

The series received critical acclaim for its acting, directing and production values. Many called it an “effective ghost story.” This 10 episode series is a must to watch if you love horror drama.

Peaky Blinders (2013)

Peaky Blinders is a British crime drama tv series. The story centers on the Peaky Blinders gang and their ambitious and highly cunning boss. It follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in the direct aftermath of the First World War. The fictional family is slightly based on a real urban gang of the same name who was active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th century.

It has 5 seasons and a total of 30 episodes. The number 30 is a tough one but you won’t be able to stop once you start watching it.

Sex Education (2019)

This series is a British comedy-drama tv series about an insecure teenager, who is ambivalent about sex and his mother who is a sex therapist. Later the teenager sets up a sex advice business with a classmate to help their fellow students with their sexual problems.

It became a success with over 40 million viewers. It has 2 seasons with 8 episodes each.

Unbelievable (2019)

Unbelievable is an American drama tv miniseries and is about a series of rapes in Washington State and Colorado. It is based on the 2015 news article “An Unbelievable Story of Rape”.

 The series received critical acclaim. It has 8 episodes. Worth the watch!

Emily in Paris (2020)

Emily in Paris is an American comedy-drama streaming tv series that shows an American girl from Chicago who moves to Paris to provide an American point of view to a French marketing firm. It shows her struggles as she tries to succeed in the workplace while her search for love is on.

The series was renewed for a second season by Netflix in November 2020. The series contains just 10 episodes.

The End of the F***ing World (2017)

The End of the F***ing World is a British dark comedy-drama tv series. It follows a 17-year-old boy who believes he is a psychopath and an angry classmate who sees a chance to escape from her home life.

The series has been praised for its writing, execution, subject matter, and performance. It has 2 seasons and a total of 16 episodes.

Criminal (2019)

Criminal is a series of four countries i.e. France, Germany, Spain, and the UK, and is a police procedural anthropology tv series. Each episode is a psychological drama revolving around interrogations of individuals by police investigators.

It has 4 parts and a total of 16 episodes. You should definitely watch this if you love drama.

Never Have I Ever (2020)

Never Have I Ever is an American comedy-drama tv-series and is about an Indian-American high school student dealing with her father’s death and her struggling relation with her mother.

It received positive reviews and was praised for breaking Asian stereotypes. It got renewed for a second season by Netflix. It has 10 episodes.

You (2018)

You is an American psychological thriller tv series based on a bookstore manager, also a serial killer, who falls in love with a customer and soon develops a toxic obsession.

Netflix announced the series as a Netflix Original title in December, 2018. It was then renewed for a third season which is to be released in 2021. It has 2 seasons with 10 episodes each.
