Gujarat Cop transferred for stopping MLA’s son, his friends amid Lockdown

(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): The transfer of a woman constable to stop the son of a Gujarat MLA and his two friends-who were driving around in Surat on Wednesday during curfew hours-has caused a major uproar, with the incident being interpreted as the police buckling under political pressure. A probe was requested for the accident.

Prakash Kanani, son of Varachha Road MLA and Kumar Kanani, Minister of State for Health, and his friends had an altercation with Constable Sunita Yadav who found out that they were out during the curfew hours and did not wear masks.

Ms. Yadav had stopped Mr. Kanani ‘s friends for violating the rules of the lockdown, according to the report. Later, they called the son of the MLA, who arrived at the spot in his father’s vehicle. An alleged recording on social media is going viral, in which he reportedly pressures her to “make you stand 365 days in the same place.”
