(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Kanpur: Today, the entire nation is remembering former President and great scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Today is the birth anniversary of former President Abdul Kalam. He was born on October 15, 1931. Former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam wanted to become something more than a scientist. But just because of this one, the biggest dream of his life was broken. The missile man, in his book ‘My Journey: Transforming Dreams in Action’, mentioned that he wanted to become a pilot. But he was only one step away from becoming a pilot. He wrote in his book that he wanted to become a pilot after doing aeronautical engineering at Madras Institute of Technology.
He has written that after engineering, his first and foremost dream was to become a pilot. He gave interviews in two places. One is Dehradun in the Indian Airforce and the other is the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP), Ministry of Defense. He has written that the interview of DTDP was easy, but the Air Force Selection Board in Dehradun wanted the personality of the candidate to be smart with the qualification and engineering knowledge. Dr. Kalam secured ninth place out of 25 candidates here, while only eight were to be selected here. Thus his dream remained one step away. He has written that he failed to fulfill this dream of becoming a pilot. After this, he reached Rishikesh from Doon, with the aim of finding a new way of life. After this, he joined DTDP as a Senior Scientific Assistant. His motive behind writing this story was that even if the dream is not fulfilled, one should not give up. New dreams, new paths always await you.
