(Milcah Anila, Intern Journalist)Vijayawada: The war of words between the High Court and the government in the AP continues to grow. Ministers and MLAs on behalf of the government are countering the remarks made by the High Court in almost all cases against the government. This has led to an increase in unwanted conflict between the two constitutional systems.
The High Court’s remarks reached the level of whether the government had declared war on them. With this, there is tension over what turn the affair will take in the coming days. The escalation of the war of words is a reflection of the situation in the wake of the recent meeting of the Prime Minister and Home Ministers with CM Jagan.
The High Court has been making several comments during the recent High Court hearing on the decisions taken by the government in AP, the policies being followed, the conduct of the police, and the functioning of the CID. In the past, courts have referred to judgments in addition to the judgment if they wished to make any comments on the matter.
But now the situation has changed. The remarks made by the High Court tribunals on several occasions before the commencement and completion of the trial of a case remain serious. These are naturally igniting the government. In many cases, the sarcastic remarks emanating from the High Court as to whether there is a government, whether the system is functioning and whether the courts should be closed are becoming a hot topic of discussion among the general public.
Government senior counters …
If there are any objections to the judgments and comments given by the High Court, then any petitioner has the opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court and seek justice, not just the government. But the issue is being exacerbated by the release of YCP government officials and ministers on social media commenting on court verdicts, comments at press meetings, and press notes.
In the past, governments, politicians, and officials were afraid to speak out on High Court judgments. Who thought he would have to face contempt of court. Broadly speaking, people tend to exercise restraint. But the YCP government seems to lack that elegance. At one stage, YCP MPs referred to the AP High Court judgments in Parliament. YCP MP Saireddy commented that after the partition, along with the financial problems of Andhra Pradesh, the judiciary also became a problem.
The High Court is ready to investigate the conspiracy angle…
The High Court has recently reacted seriously to comments made by YCP leaders, especially on social media, as well as comments made publicly by ruling party leaders and Assembly Speaker Tamminen. Directly questioned whether the war had been declared on the High Court. With this, the ruling party and government practices are becoming a hot topic among the people. The High Court also made harsh remarks in the matter of police intimidation of lawyers filing habeas corpus petitions. Not only that, it has repeatedly commented that the conspiracy angle in this affair is known. With this, the affair of the government counters seems to have gone to the angle of conspiracy.
This is the argument of the YCP leaders …
YCP leaders who are dissatisfied with the judgments given by the High Court in several key cases .. are mentioning the same thing in many cases. YCP leaders are of the view that the remarks made by the High Court bench and judges during the trial rather than the verdicts are diluting the prestige of the government among the people. With this, they are trying to bring them back into the public and discuss them. Ministers and YCP elders are preparing to give counters to the High Court remarks from time to time. However, YCP’s argument is roughly the same. Government Adviser Sajjala Ramakrishnareddy recently commented that they respect the judgments of the High Court but whether it is sufficient to mention the remarks made during the trial in the judgment itself.
Will the center intervene?
The general public also feels that the Cold War between the government and the High Court will continue in the wake of the High Court judgments on government policies and decisions in the AP and the comments coming out during the trial. However, there is a debate as to how far this war of words is going and whether the Center will try to thwart it or spend time looking into it.
The fight between the judiciary and the judiciary is nothing new, but the ongoing war of words in the AP is going to a climax. The judges’ phone tapping case is coming up for hearing soon. Allegations of conspiracy against the High Court are already being heard by judges. Arguments are growing that the center should intervene and avoid a confrontation between the two systems.
