(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): Hyderabad Police Commissioner’s Task Force on Monday arrested an individual for duping people after luring them with plasma donation guarantees and arranging anti-viral emergency drugs for Covid-19 patients. The accused was named as Sandeep, 25, a native of Andhra Pradesh’s Rajam Srikakulam District. More than 200 people have been cheated by him.

He started watching out for his victims on social networking sites when he noticed a large need for plasma donations and anti-viral medications and began calling them over the cell. He would pose himself as someone who had healed from Covid-19 and wished to donate plasma. He introduced himself, in some cases, as a vendor of antiviral drugs. He would get money exchanged from them, for his travel expenses, by apps after winning the victims’ trust. If the purchases online were successful, he would avoid them, police said.

In 2016, Sandeep completed his degree and a course on computer hardware networking at his native place. Police said he had been arrested earlier and sent on judicial remand on two burglary charges and started plasma trafficking after he was released from jail.
