If 10 states beat Covid, India can win, Modi to CMs

Saloni Subha ( Intern Journalist ) India’s victory against Covid-19 is now dependent on the performance of 10 states that account for 80% of active cases, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a group of chief ministers during a virtual meeting on Thursday.

India had 2.2 million cases till Monday, Modi gave the examples of states like Delhi, Haryana, and UP to underline how the situation can be improved. Nitish Kumar (Bihar ), Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh ), Mamta Banerjee (West Bengal ), Tamil Nadu (EK Palaniswani ), K Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana, Maharashtra’s Udhav Thackrey, Amarinder Singh of Punjab and Vijay Rupani of Gujrat were the chief minister who attended the meeting.

“The path to success has been achieved by the result after continuously monitoring the ground reality in your States. I am confident that with the strength of your experience, the country will win this battle and there will be a new beginning”, he said.

The PM also pointed out that containment, contact tracing, and surveillance are the most effective weapon against the viral disease. He also emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis of Covid-19, citing experts that if a person is diagnosed within 72 hours then the spread can be controlled to a great extent.
