(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Lahore: A statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh located in the Lahore Fort has been vandalized. Officials gave this information on Saturday. This is the second time since the statue was unveiled in June 2019, when the 19th century Sikh ruler Maharaja Singh’s statue was defaced at the I Zinda Haveli located in the fort. After this incident, the authorities closed the premises in which the bronze statue of Maharaja Singh is located. A Lahore Wald City Authority official said a teen visitor broke the arm of the Maharaja’s statue on Friday.

He said that the security guard posted there arrested the boy and handed him over to the police. The suspect has been booked under sections 295, 295-A, and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He said the suspect told the police that his religious sentiments were hurt by seeing the statue of a Sikh ruler in the fort. In early August 2019, a religious party and two youths belonging to the Tehreek-Labbaik Pakistan of Maulana Khaim Rizvi vandalized the statue.
