(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a videoconference meeting with Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs to discuss the state’s battle against Covid-19. The CM had convoked a meeting on the same topic with MLAs earlier. The CM said Delhi was now in a much better shape than before, and credited it to the Capital’s concerted intervention.
“The reason Delhi’s model of fighting coronavirus has been successful is that all parties and their members rose above their political affiliations and worked collectively. The central government, hotels, private hospitals, banquet halls, NGOs, religious and cultural organizations have come in support of the Delhi government,” he said. Delhi’s number of cases fell over the past three weeks after reaching nearly 4,000 cases on June 23.
The meeting lasted about 40 minutes, during which six of BJP’s seven Lok Sabha MPs attended, except for Minister of Health Harsh Vardhan. South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri said he had asked the government to send each of the seven Lok Sabha constituencies Rs 1 crore to fix drains and roads before rains, pointing out that the MPLAD money has already been diverted to the COVID challenge.
