Washington: India and the United States have close cooperation on the exchange of information related to the development of vaccines to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Saturday that currently, Indian and American companies are at least Fewer are working on three vaccines simultaneously.
Sandhu said that the Corona crisis provided an unexpected opportunity for India to expand its manufacturing base and play an important role in the recovery process of global supply chains. I think American investors are smart, American companies are smart, and they are moving to connect and already at the company level, this is being done.
Sandhu told the media that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have collaborated with each other for many years. In fact, about two or three years ago, we developed a vaccine for another virus called rotavirus. This helped not only India but also the United States and many other countries.
Furthermore, the Ambassador stated that India is an important part of the supply chain, and this particular crisis has certainly shown the United States, if not the world over, that India is a reliable partner. He further stated that India is able to meet whatever assistance they (the US) need in terms of the supply chain, and this has been acknowledged by the highest level of the US government.
Similarly, this time too, there is close cooperation between the two countries. Plus, there are at least three vaccines that Indian and American companies are currently working on together. A consignment of hydroxychloroquine from India arrived in the United States last month, which the US and some other countries have approved as a possible cure for COVID-19. The export of the drug was approved by the Indian authorities at the request of US President Donald Trump.
