(Deepshikha Gautam, Intern Journalist) Chennai: and Russia declared joint winners after the controversial final at the FIDE online chess Olympiad on Sunday. Russia was initially declared the winner when to Indians Nihal Sarin and Divya Deshmukh lost Dare games in the finals on a time basis. But the loss of their time was due to loss of internet connection.
The official appeal was filed after the result in India. It said that the internet connection of their players was lost due to server failure. The two countries were declared the joint winners after India’s appeal. The international chess federation said that after examining the issue, the chairman Akardi Dwokorwich decided to award gold to both teams. Olympiad was first done in an online format.
