Aatmja Kumari(Intern Journalist): The important agreements reached in the two-plus-two talks between the defense and foreign ministers of India and the US have been described by US lawmakers as an unprecedented initiative between the two countries. Some lawmakers, including Republican leader Michael T. Mekkal of the Foreign Affairs Committee, have said that the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement on Geospatial Cooperation (BICA) agreement between the two countries will add a new dimension to India and the US.

With this agreement, India stands as the closest military partner to America. Other agreements signed between the two countries will promote mutual cooperation in the fields of nuclear power, earth science and Ayurveda. Through these agreements, the partnership of the two countries will give a new dimension to the global strategy. The US will establish lasting peace with India in the Indo-Pacific region. China’s growing military power in this region will be curbed.

America has spoken of standing with India in all circumstances. China is sleepless with this American announcement. Sources say that India and the United States will jointly take initiatives across South Asia. The Chinese government has become aware of this activism of India and America. This is the reason why China has started reacting very aggressively. On Wednesday, the embassy in New Delhi as well as the Ministry of External Affairs issued a strong response to the indirect gesture given to China in the two-plus-two talks between India and the US on Tuesday.

Through these two statements, China has indirectly warned the US not to interfere in bilateral issues between India and China. China’s Foreign Ministry said that the United States is working with a cold-war mentality in the region. The US is trying to dominate itself with the Indo-Pacific strategy.
