(Dharshini.G, Intern journalist) India’s cricket boss Sourav Ganguly says the Indian Premier League’s choice to suspend an agreement with its principal sponsor, the Chinese telephone producer Vivo, following a fatal border conflict between the two countries is “only a blip”. The IPL a week ago suspended the agreement with Vivo, which marked a five-year contract in 2017 worth more than $330 million to support the world’s most extravagant cricket competition.
“I wouldn’t consider it a financial crisis. It is only a small blip,” said Ganguly, the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“BCCI, it’s an extremely solid establishment – the game, the players, the overseers in the past have made this game so solid that BCCI can deal with every one of these blips,” he said at an online conference on Saturday.
“You keep your different choices open. It resembles Plan A and Plan B.” The 2020 IPL tournament is about to start in the United Arab Emirates one month from now. Vivo said the choice was mutually agreed upon.
