(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League is to be played in the UAE next month. For this, the teams want a three-day isolation in UAE instead of six.
BCCI official said that along with this, the teams have also requested permission to deliver contactless food outside the hotel. This will be discussed at a meeting of team owners and IPL officials on Wednesday evening.
As per the current standard operating procedure (SOP) of the BCCI, players and support staff will be tested on the first, third, and sixth days during isolation in the UAE. Only then will they be allowed to practice. Even then, they will be screened every fifth day in the tournament lasting 53 days.
The official said, “Most players have not played cricket for six months, so they want to practice more and more.”
The BCCI has asked the teams to leave for UAE only after 20 August. Some teams, including the Chennai Super Kings, wanted to leave early. It also said, ‘teams be allowed to go after 15 August instead of 20 so that they get proper time for practice and preparation.’
The families of players and team owners will remain in a bio-safe environment during the IPL. The teams want the board to review it. They said, “As per the current SOP, they cannot make contact with the team unless part of the bio-bubble. Team owners will not be able to live in the bubble for three months. Therefore special protocols can be made with owners and family on the basis of medical advice.”
Players will also not be allowed to interact with other team members during isolation in the UAE. They will be able to do this only after having three Covid Tests. The teams also wanted to know if the players would be able to fulfill their professional responsibilities towards their teams, for which they might have to shoot and meet people.
