The 2015 nuclear deal between Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif and top Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov discussed in detail. Discussions were also held on bilateral relations between the two countries and the current crisis in Syria. The talks are considered important because Washington is seeking to expand UN weapons on Iran, which is scheduled to end in mid-October. However, Russia and China have opposed this demand from the US. A news agency reported that Zarif and Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Arghchi accompanied him during his visit to Moscow.
Seven months ago, European countries warned
Leaders of Germany, France, and Britain on Sunday appealed to Iran not to violate the 2015 nuclear deal. Prominent leaders of these countries made this appeal after declaring Tehran not to follow the limits of enrichment. A joint statement was issued by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The joint statement said that we appeal to Iran to withdraw all steps which are not in conformity with the nuclear agreement.
Iran also announced strict steps
On the other hand, Iran has also announced strict measures in response to America’s withdrawal from the multilateral agreement with Iran and banning it again. Iran had announced the finalization of its fifth step to back out of the nuclear deal. This time also Iran said that if the US withdraws from this agreement, it will have fatal consequences.
What is the 2015 nuclear deal
- Uranium is cultivated at two sites in Iran – Natanz, and Fordo. It is used for nuclear power, but can also be used to develop nuclear weapons.
- In July 2015, Iran had 20,000 centers where chemical particles of uranium were isolated. Under the Joint and Complete Action Plan, it was asked to limit its number to 5,060. Under this agreement, Iran promised that it would reduce its uranium reserves by 98 percent to 300 kg.
- In January 2016, Iran limited the number of uranium centers and shipped hundreds of kilograms of uranium to Russia. Under the agreement, research and development programs can be conducted only for a maximum of eight years in NATANZ. At the same time, Fordo has said to ban it for the next 15 years.
