The Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ declared on Twitter that other than qualifying the Joint Entrance Examination, or JEE, Advanced, students will no longer need to score at least 75% in their board exams to be qualified.

Before, students who scored a base 75 percent marks in the Class 12 board tests or positioned in the main 20 percentile in their passing assessments were qualified. But now, the crossing out of a few board papers because of the COVID-19 pandemic and students making getting lesser marks, the Joint Admission Board, or JAB, has loosened up this eligibility criterion of 75 percent marks.

Qualified students who have passed class XII assessments will be qualified for admissions regardless of marks acquired,” he further included.

Joint Entrance Examination, or JEE, Advanced, is an entrance exam for admission to different undergrad Engineering, Science, and Architecture courses in 23 IITs. Candidates need to qualify the JEE Main first.
