(Riya Saha, Intern Journalist )The Covid-19 death toll in Jharkhand touched 18 on Saturday as three patients — one each from Jamshedpur, Sahibganj, and Khunti — died during treatment, health officials said.
At least 33 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection erupted in the State on Saturday and 34 patients recovered, a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM) stated.
All the deceased patients were suffering from severe comorbid conditions, health officials revealed.
The COVID-19 virus has claimed 18 lives in Jharkhand so far, says government data. Out of the 14 COVID deaths in the state, four were reported from Ranchi, two each from Bokaro, Sahibganj, and Giridih, three from Hazaribag, and one each from Gumla, Simdega, East Singhbhum and Koderma, health officials said. All the victims were said to have comorbid conditions that aggravated due to the Covid-19 virus.
As per figures available with the National Health Mission (NHM), the government has tested around 1.5 lakh people for Covid-19 in Jharkhand so far, and more than 2700 have been tested positive.
According to a report, the Covid mortality rate in Jharkhand is 0.65 per cent, whereas the national average is 2.88 per cent. The recovery rate in the state is also better than the national average. The recovery rate in Jharkhand is 74.29 per cent, against the national recovery rate of 60.81 per cent. Jharkhand’s Covid recovery rate was one of the best in the country, an official said.
