(Manisha Mahar, Intern Journalist); The government has approved an insurance cover of Rs 25 lakh to create a sense of security among the elected members in the panchayat elections. All the panchayat members and members of urban-local bodies elected in case of terrorism-related death will get this insurance. This decision of the government has been welcomed by all the panch-sarpanches and members of urban local bodies.
Not only the Panch-Sarpanch, but the political activists working at the grassroots level are also appreciating this step. They believe that more such steps need to be taken so that more people join the mainstream. President of Panches of Ganderbal district, Nazir Ahmed Raina said, ‘I congratulate LG Sahab on behalf of all the Panches that they have issued an order that if a member is a martyr, he will get insurance of Rs 25 lakh. This was our very old demand which has been fulfilled.
In Ganderbal, BJP district president Ghulam Hasan said that we appreciate the move. Members of Panch-Sarpanchs and Urban Local Bodies will get 25 lakh rupees. This is a good step from the Prime Minister, but at the same time, we want to request that more such steps are needed so that those who have doubts about democracy can also be involved in the progress of the country.
Vijay Kumar, IGP of Kashmir Zone, said that if any political activist or Panch-sarpanch is threatened, then we request them that they will be provided security to those they meet their SP.
