(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): The government has approved a second relief package to bring Jammu and Kashmir’s economy back on track due to the Corona crisis. Under this, a relief box has been opened for the people of different areas. In this, the surcharge on power fix charge has been waived along with waiving stamp duty on the loan. The Amnesty Scheme of the Electricity Department and the date of filing of GST returns have also been extended. These decisions were ratified in a meeting of the Administrative Council (AC) chaired by Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Friday.
The stimulus package emphasizes strengthening the economy. The central government had earlier given a package of 20 lakh crores under the Self-Reliant India Campaign, which emphasized MSMEs and vulnerable areas. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir felt the need to consider measures for the welfare of areas not covered under the Central Government Package. The waiver scheme of sales tax, VAT under the relief package has been extended till 31 October.
For reimbursement of GST related claims, the period from January to March has been extended to 15 October and from 15 April to June 15. The state government will bear the surcharge levied on the fixed charge of the electricity bill of all industrial/commercial establishments in Jammu and Kashmir for the period from 31 March to 31 October under the relief package.
