(Dharshini.G, Intern journalist) Ghaziabad: A journalist was shot at in Ghaziabad close to Delhi the previous evening, with parts of the assault being caught on chilling CCTV film. Writer Vikram Joshi was going on a bike with his two little girls when a gathering of men attacked him and started shooting at him. The journalist got shot on his head and is in critical condition at a private emergency clinic in the city.

Five people, including the main accused who the police say opened fire, have been captured. Every one of them was known to Mr. Joshi’s family, the police said. A CCTV film of a street in Vijay Nagar zone of Ghaziabad, where the assault occurred, shows Mr. Joshi riding a bike with his two little girls.

The bike can be seen turning abruptly and in the blink of an eye, a group of men surround the bicycle and begin pulling and hitting the rider. The two daughters can be seen fleeing the second the bike falls. The assault occurred at around 10:30 in the night.

“Five charges have been captured regarding the case wherein a journalist was shot at by five people in Vijay Nagar. Joshi’s sibling said that he was assaulted while coming back from his sister’s place yesterday,” senior cop Kalanidhi Naithani said.

The police speculate that the assault on Vikram Joshi could have occurred after he as of recent complaints to the police about his niece being harassed by a group of men.
