(Juhi Aishwary, Journalist): Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde on Wednesday said that instructions will be issued soon to judges and lawyers not to wear gowns and jackets as they make the infection easier to infect. During the hearing of a case by video conferencing, Justice Bobde made the said comment in response to the question of senior advocate Kapil Sibal. The bench also consisted of Justice Bobde along with Justice Indu Malhotra and Justice Hrishikesh Rai.

The bench was heard a plea seeking direction to the government for a complete ban on WhatsApp payment services. During the hearing, the judge was wearing a band on a white shirt. Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, questioned why the judges were not wearing gowns. On this, Justice Bobde told them that wearing extra clothes or gowns helps in corona virus infection.

Hence, instructions will soon be issued to the judges and lawyers for exemption from wearing the gown during the hearing. After this comment from the Chief Justice, in another case, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was also seen banding the white shirt. Earlier, the apex court said that now the judges will hear from the courtrooms located in the court premises through video conferencing. Till now, the judges were hearing cases from their homes too.
