(Riya Singh, Intern Journalist): According to a report, the number of such patients, who have kidney problems due to covid-19, is increasing worldwide. The virus affects the kidneys in both direct and indirect ways. According to a recent report by the International Society of Nephrology (ISN), acute kidney injury, and kidney failure is a major cause of kidney problems due to covid-19. In this, the functioning of the kidney is disturbed. Dialysis has to be done in severe cases.
Preventive measures: To avoid kidney diseases, only light and easy to digest food should be consumed. Avoid salt, sugar, and flour as much as possible. Stay away from alcohol and smoking. Don’t let the sugar level rise. Take medicines regularly if you have any kidney-related problems. Keep essential medicines stored at home. If you are thinking of dialysis, then don’t delay because there will be a buildup of fluid in the lungs and heart which can be fatal. Consume fluids as per the doctor’s directions.
