(Suparna Ghosh, Intern Journalist) Lucknow: Madhya Pradesh Governor, Lalji Tandon took his last breath on this Tuesday. He was admitted in the Medanta Hospital and was kept on the ventilator support on June 11. His son as well as the UP Minister, Asutosh Tandon announced his death on Twitter, saying, “Babuji nahi rahe (my father has passed away)”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed his grief and remembered Tandon for his “untiring efforts to serve the society”. His son also said that his father’s last rites will be performed this evening in Lucknow and in accordance with the Covid-19 guidelines. The proficient leader’s body will be initially kept at the official residence in Hazratganj and afterwards the body will be taken to his residence at Chowk, in order to allow people for the last respects.
Lalji Tandon lately had breathing problems and difficulty in urination and was hence admitted to a private hospital. Later on, the director of Medanta Hospital, Prof Rakesh Kapoor, confirmed his undergone surgery for liver malfunction only after which his condition worsened.
The late Governor was born on 12 April 1935 and had incessantly served as a Member of legislative Assembly (MLA) for three terms in UP and a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) from Lucknow. Lalji was also appointed as the Governor of Bihar before shifting to MP in 2019. He had remarkably made his efforts in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
Smriti Irani, the Union Minister took to her tweet saying, “ I am pained to hear about the sad demise of Shri Lalji Tandon. A stalwart, Babuji helped pave the way for many youngsters, guiding us gently on our ideological journey. My condolences to Gopal bhaiya & family. Om Shanti”
