(Pooja Dubey, Intern Journalist) Landslides have occurred in the Rajamala area of the Idukki district of Kerala due to heavy rains and floods. According to Kerala Police, seven people have died and 10 people have been rescued in this accident so far.
NDRF team has also been deployed for rescue work. Forest officials and other emergency service personnel have reached the spot. The Chief Minister’s Office has approached the Indian Air Force to provide helicopter services for rescue operations. The service is expected to be available soon.
State Health Minister KK Selja said that “a mobile medical team and 15 ambulances have been sent to Idukki. More medical teams will be dispatched when needed. Hospitals have been remain alert.”
Kerala Revenue Minister E Chandrasekaran has said that “around 82 people were staying in the four labor camps. We do not know how many people were present there at the time of the landslide. The NDRF team has not reached the spot yet. Due to bad weather, it is not possible to save people. A red alert has been issued in three districts of Kerala till August 11.”
