(Anjali Shreya, Intern Journalist): In Patna Zoo, a lion named Sheru died suddenly at 8:30 am on Monday. Sheru was about seven and a half years old. The lion was perfectly healthy. Already, there were no symptoms of the disease. Zoo Director Amit Kumar said that the post-mortem was done in the presence of a team of five-member experts from Bihar Veterinary College, including the veterinarian of the park. At first sight, the cause of his death has been described as septicemia shock. A detailed report has not been received yet. Samples of its various organs, liver, kidney, blood, etc. have been sent to IVRI Izzat Nagar, Bareilly, and Bihar Veterinary College Patna to investigate the cause of death.
Septicemia or sepsis is a serious bloodstream infection. This is known as bacterial or blood poisoning. After bacterial infection in the lungs or skin, it enters the blood and spreads throughout the body. Due to a lack of information in the initial stage, treatment cannot be done, so the death rate is very high. If the caretaker had known the initial symptoms and rescue, the lion’s life could have been saved.
