Washington, (Sandhya Jha Intern Journalist): Travel restrictions are in force under worldwide lockdown to prevent the spread of novel corona virus infection. In the meantime special flights will be arranged this week to bring the stranded Indian nationals to the US, which will start from San Francisco. However, the exact date for this has not been announced yet. These aircraft will fly from San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Washington DC.
The community leaders have welcomed this decision of the Government of India. On Monday, the Indian government announced that special aircraft will be arranged for Indian nationals stranded abroad to return home. Which will start in many stages from 7 May. The Indian Embassy and its Consulate in the US are preparing a list of Indian citizens who are to return to India. This list is being made through the online registration form.
Jaipur Foot- America Chapter Chairman Prem Bhandari is receiving phone calls from many Indian nationals trapped in America. Some of these are students who are looking for a place to stay, some are tourists who need medicines. Chairman Bhandari informed Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola in writing. He wrote, “A large number of students are trapped here, who have lost their money.” There is no where to stay. The serious thing is that this situation is affecting their mental and physical health. ‘
Many Indian students and tourists are stuck in the US due to travel restrictions. In the coming weeks, more aircraft can be deployed for this purpose.
