(Riya Saha, Intern Journalist)ASSAM: Parents reportedly sold a four-month-old girl child in Kokrajhar district in Assam. Owing to the deep financial crisis due to lockdown, the parents sold their baby for Rs 45,000.
Deepak, a migrant labor had used all his money to cover the distance from Gujarat to reach his village Tontula Mandariagaon in Assam.
Due to joblessness and penury, they resorted to selling their youngest child.
However, the girl child was later rescued by the joint effort of an NGO and Kokrajhar police after villagers initiated the investigation.
An FIR was lodged with the local Kachugaon police station, under section 370 of the Indian Penal Code, and accordingly, the police arrested the three accused persons.
Assam Police have also arrested the accused in the case.
