(Aditya Shaw, Intern Journalist): Local trains and metro services were resumed in West Bengal from Wednesday after nearly eight months of stalled services due to the Corona infection and the resulting lockdown. For this, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been issued, according to which it has been made mandatory for every passenger to drive trains with 50 percent capacity along with applying masks.
The government has shared the responsibility between the authorities and the Railways. The Home and Hill Affairs Department released SOP. Railways will ensure an adequate number of trains as per requirement. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that 696 suburban services will be run by the railways in West Bengal from Wednesday, November 11.
According to the government, it will be mandatory for passengers to wear masks or covers. Points of entry and exit will be marked. Railway Protection Force (RPF) will assist GRP with crowd control. Along with this, the services of e-ticketing and digital payments will be increased. At the same time, a large number of soap and sanitizers will be provided along with cleaning the washroom.
Along with cleaning inside the train, there will also be cleaning on platforms. Other protective standards will be fixed along with thermal checking so that the infected person cannot get inside the station. An adequate presence of transport to and fro stations will also be decided.
